▴ Mâcon-Chardonnay, Talmard 2020
Mâcon-Chardonnay, Mallory & Benjamin, Domaine Talmard 2020
I have been buying Domaine Talmard’s Mâcon-Chardonnay for many years, and it never fails to please. It has become our house white wine, and we go through an alarming number of cases a year. It is the best value white Burgundy I have come across, and at under £15.00 a bottle it is a steal. The Talmard family have been making wine since the 17th century, and today the 30-hectare domaine is run by Mallory and Benjamin Talmard. 5ha of vineyards produce Chardonnay grapes from 30-year-old vines grown on limestone/clay soils. Natural yeasts are used and the wine is unoaked; 2020 is a terrific vintage for white burgundy and this year’s Mâcon-Chardonnay is a beautiful green-gold colour, the nose promises minerality which delivers in the glass. This is a wine for wine lovers who want tension with a core of cool classic Chardonnay flavours. Beautifully balanced, it shows refreshing acidity and a satisfyingly creamy roundness. It is very versatile, ideal as an aperitif or with a variety of food. 13%.
Price: approx. £15 per bottle
