▴ Errazuriz Las Pizarras Pinot Noir 2015

Errazuriz Las Pizarras Pinot Noir 2015, Aconcagua Valley, Chile

Francisco Baettig, the winemaker, describes this as his Grand Cru and it is easy to see why. There are 50 hectares of Pinot Noir planted on the Aconcagua Estate, but this wine comes from just 5 hectares. If you think New World Pinot Noir is just about fruit, think again – this wine superbly demonstrates the potential of Pinot Noir in cool-climate Chile. It has a wonderful uplifted, perfumed bouquet of fresh summer berries; the palate reveals black cherries and raspberries intermingled with hints of sous-bois, and very gentle and fine silky tannins. There’s a wonderful tension and balance to it, with a long persistent finish. It’s complex and elegant; any serious Burgundy lover should take note.
